Don't let the smell fool you

This is truly, the world's smelliest cheese, but don't let that deter you. Its the best tasting and creamiest cheese out there. I was happy to see that the cheesyplace.com carried and shipped this particular cheese all the way up to me in Bracebridge, Ontario. If your mission was to share artisan cheese with Canadians, to all necks of the woods, you have definitely succeeded. We love to access new cheeses and your store and website are certainly providing that experience. Shipping is easy and quick and well packaged for delivery. We learned about this cheese on a documentary we watched and thought we would never be able to try it unless we travelled to France, found it on your website and have ordered it every since! Your selection is amazing and look forward to finding our next great cheese!

The Facts

Country: France
Milk Pasteurized cow
Age: 1-2 months

Tasting Notes:

Époisses Berthaut Cheese comes to us from the Cote-d’Or and Burgundy regions of France. This delicious cheese dates back as far as the 16th century, where it was made by a community of monks in the village of Époisses.

The cheese almost succumbed to extinction during World War II, when production ceased entirely. M. Berthaut, of the village of Époisses was not willing to let the cheese fall into obscurity, and revived production in the 1950's (thanks M. Berthaut!).

The cheese features a delightful orange rind and an intense creaminess. Known as one of the "stinky" cheeses, some may be put off by the aroma. But the smell is quickly forgotten by the delicious flavour!

It actually has a quite a subtle, sweet flavour, and is so soft and gooey, it's best scooped onto some baguette with a spoon. A must try!
